Took the gun out for some long range shooting this weekend. The gun is a Remington 700 SPS Tactical AAC in a 308 with a 20 inch bull barrel. It has a JP Enterprise compensator, 20 MOA base, Vortex rings, Vortex 6.5x20x44 scope, with a Harris bipod. The recoil is less than a 223. I was using some hand loads I worked up (Hornady 165SST, 43.2 gr Varget, Nosler brass). I have a bullet drop app on the iphone that is pretty accurate. I started at 300 yards since I knew my 200 was zeroed with a 1 1/2 inch group. Backed up in 100 hundred yard increments untilI hit 600 yards. So once I made a few wind adjusts I was making head shots at 600 yards with 3- 4 inch groups. I ran out of bullets to go out more so I'll go back and try some longer ranges later. We would take a few shots and then ride the 4 wheeler down to check out our shots. Just watching how long it took the 4 wheeler to get there was cool. That's a loooong way. It would take about a good 1/2 of a second from the recoil to the dust flying. What a blast. I think I found a new sport.

Sand sock? I used a sand bag in the rear. But with a little wind here and there 3/4 inch group sounds all most impossible at 800 yards. I thought 3 inch group at 600 was good.

3" at 600 is good. That is 1/2 MOA. Never heard of 3/4" at 800yds. Maybe 3/4MOA... I believe the current world record at 1000 yds is 4+"
