Removing spray paint on an AR

I’ve used brake cleaner on a AK it’s worked for me
Make sure It's non- chlorinated brake and parts cleaner. It's usually a can with green on it while the regular has red. That's the way most cans are. You can buy it at Walmart or any parts store. Just be real careful and make sure it's says non+chlorinated on the can. The regular stuff can discolor some of the plastic parts or possibly ruin the finish. Just hang it up with a close hanger off a tree limb and spray it and it'll dissolve right off. Just make sure you hang it with the barrel pointed down that way all the brake cleaner and residue doesn't run into the stock and all that mess. Just get a couple of cans to make sure you have enough. Walmart's prices on it are a lot cheaper than the parts store so I suggest getting it there.

Plus the non-chlorinated brake and parts cleaner will run right off and you won't have to worry about getting any of that gel off. That's the nasty way of doing it and I don't recommend it. I used to do color fill a lot and I used the non-chlorinated brake and parts cleaner and it came right off with no effects to the receivers or any of the other parts. Trust me! You'll thank me when it's done.

This...

I've actually been working on removing paint from one of mine today.
Same type of paint too, most of it comes off after a few minutes of sitting.

This.

I've gotten a ton of good deals on rattle canned stuff (including a $100 Daniel Defense Lower) that has been rattle canned

This stuff is cheap, easy to use, relatively safe

Make sure to clean it after removing paint and underlying finish should be safe...

I've used acetone with good results.
That works two but expensive and labor intensive. If you will take my word for it the Non-chlorinated brake and parts cleaner is the easy and quickest way to do the job. There is no wiping, no clean up because it runs right off. It simply dissolves and runs right off. Then the brake cleaner just evaporates leaving no clean up work to deal with when you are done. It's as easy as 1, 2, 3....

Goof Off Graffiti remover for the win! Use in a well ventilated area and it does no damage to AR's!
