researching scopes

With 2nd plane, you can only use the mils at max power, or whatever the specified ranging power is.

I'm using a Nikon 2.5-10x44 Tactical that I've had for 7-8 years. It's a stout scope. I paid $500 back then. There's been a jump in scope prices and everyone thinks theirs are as good as NF and USO now. some might be good, but the pricepoint is upwards of $1K now- even on my Nikon.

I've used IOR, Leupold and shot with USO and NF. The NF and USO reticles are tiny. Some say they lose them too easy.

I've been shopping Burris and Vortex lately for a 1-6x for my AR. I like a higher power for targets, but lower power for hunting type stuff.

I started longe range shooting with a Super Sniper 10x and it was good enough. Then I tried hunting with it and had a buck walk up to within 20 yards. I could see the individual hairs, but couldn't zoom out to see where I was holding. I got him, but by looking down the side of the barrel.

after that I got a variable.

Bushnell has some nice Elite Tactical scopes out as well.

for ranging, Mil/Mil or MOA/MOA is great if you learn on that system. I learned with MOA/Mil and will stick with it. The method is in my head enough that there's no lag

I'm thinking this one:
Falcon Menace 4-14x44 Tactical 30mm Riflescope
•Matte
•First Focal Plane ML16 Reticle
•30mm
•Side Focus
•1/10 MIL Target Knobs

ive heard good things from people that own a Menace. just double check the warranty as it is Hecho en China and dont tend to hold up well over time.
