The rams weigh 60 pounds and are set at 500 meters. It takes a lot of energy to knock them down. The minimum caliber of 6 mm won't knock them over most of the time, 223 doesn't have a prayer.

How about giving rimfire silhouettes a try. Pretty much shoot what ya bring (regardless of what RBGC web site says) Third saturdays april through october. I believe first match is free. Check it out on the RBGC website under rifle venues. Also try NRA light rifle in rimfire. First saturday starting in april through october. A little more strict because it is a registered match. Both good fun with a lot of great people. I can assure you both will make you a better offhand shot. Frequently folks bring extra gear for anyone who would like to try.I guess I'll stick to pokin paper.

15 minutes for each 10 shots for record. Sighters allowed while shooting for record. We are usually done a 60 shot match by around 1 pm. RBGC uses NRA rules and are quite strict. Equally applying to everyone. Don't know about "building a rifle" but anything weighing less than 8.5 lbs with sights and a not less than 2 lb trigger is allowed. Guns are checked. Any sights. Some folks shoot irons only. We do have specific for irons match in August. Distances fired are 50 feet and 50 yards. As for scoring, most of the time the shooter to your right scores your target. Anything questionable decided by the judges. Backers are used for crossfires and to check double holes. Rimfire silhouette is just like HP. But not registered match. Shoot what ya bring.I tried NRA light rifle when it first came out, built a couple rifles, won some medals, meh. In thinking about why I don't go anymore I could not isolate one thing, rules, match length, scoring come to mind but none were really game stoppers. Hadn't considered rimfire silhouette.
