I wasn't really surprised, just saddened. I always had the sense he was tottering along on that 'thin line between genius and insanity'. Tried relief with alcohol and drugs to ease the demons, to no avail. He was so edgy at times, I had just hoped he never fell off.I suspect that old saying about a 'thin line between genius and insanity' may hold true in this case. Back in the late 80s seeing him live on a talk show (or any venue really) was a matter of "Put on your seat belt and hold on!" The guy was a fierce talent.
How ironic when a comic is so internally tortured.![]()
