Robin Williams died?

I suspect that old saying about a 'thin line between genius and insanity' may hold true in this case. Back in the late 80s seeing him live on a talk show (or any venue really) was a matter of "Put on your seat belt and hold on!" The guy was a fierce talent.
How ironic when a comic is so internally tortured. :grey:
I wasn't really surprised, just saddened. I always had the sense he was tottering along on that 'thin line between genius and insanity'. Tried relief with alcohol and drugs to ease the demons, to no avail. He was so edgy at times, I had just hoped he never fell off.

Have you guys not noticed how dark the lives of a lot of these people are? True comic genius is an art, and artists are usually pretty dark at the core.

I suspect you have never sat with a close friend that was begging you for more pain medication or a quick death. It will change your mind fast.

Hate to see this happen to anyone.

RIP

i can relate. I had a cousin kill himself through a nasty divorce when I was young. I was brought up thinking that suicide was a selfish act . Not to justify what he did as it caused a lot of pain throughout the family and his kids he left behind. Had a girlfriend about 15 yrs ago that tried everything to get sober and came from more dis function then you can imagine . She tried suicide twice and failed.
Again not to justify or pick a side but it really made me think " what is more selfish , to permantly kill your pain or to have to live with it and deal with it every day just for everyone else's sake....can't really judge unless you have lived in their shoes. They make look all pretty but until you walk in them You Will Never know how much they may really hurt.

Wow.

Still sad, wouldn't you say?

Anyone suffering enough to take their own life hurts me to think about how caught up "we" tend to get about someone being a lefty or righty either way. I'm about as far right as it goes on most subjects, but truth be told, when it's time to ring that bell, none of that really matters. I'm sad for his family and how this happened. Aside personal and political views, his professional career affected me strongly as a child and I've enjoyed much of his work.

agreed.
