Ruger 10/22 issues

I was going to shoot it a little more today and try different ammo and see what happens. I will also get some pictures of any that doesn’t fire along with some that did. Thanks for the info already given guys.

Well I had just enough time this evening before it got to dark to put 10 more rounds through her. I loaded up 10 rounds of CCI standard velocity 1070 fps. Only had one failure to fire (don’t recall if it was round 3 or 4) all the rest were good.
I believe that I am getting some lighter strikes every so often. Here are some pictures of the firing pin strikes. The one on the left was struck by firing pin just no bang. The one on the right went bang

Yep. Those are light strikes

  • Lube the firing pin a bit, see if that helps.
  • Maybe pull the pin and see if there are signs of friction on the sides from it binding in the slot in the receiver.
  • Consider polishing the sides of the pin or finding where the pin is binding and relieving that point in the action.
  • Check the spring and see if a slightly heavier spring would help
  • Check and see if the firing pin spring is in the "right way round". One end of that spring is conical. The non-conical end of the spring should be nearest to the bolt-face

If it's firing most of the time, and even when it doesn't fire, you're seeing primer strikes, then the locking mechanism, trigger etc. are functioning fine.

Thanks for that information. I will pull it apart and check for any issues you are referring to. It was a brand new firing pin and should have thought about polishing the sides a little. I do know that the spring is in correctly double checked myself before installing just to make sure it was turned correctly.
