Didn't even know I had a hernia. Was planting some lemon grass in my flower bed 4 days ago and felt a sharp pain in my stomach. Stood up and my whole midsection felt like it was set on fire. I grabbed my stomach in failed attempt to stop the pain and felt a bulge just above my belly button. Tried to feel the bulge and pain shot up my spine and down my legs.
Went to the ER, got really drugged up, the doctor pushed my guts back in the tear. Go see my surgeon Wednesday to schedule a date to get it fixed
Anybody had the surgery ?

yep and like you didn't know it, had been working in the yard, came in took bath laid back in recliner in shorts, and saw huge bulge (not a bon*r) not far above jewel box, pushed on it and it went in a ways so I knew exactly what it was. went to surgeon next day, if not fixed early enough a real problem, the scrotum has a ring of tissue that separates it from the intestines and if a hernia is in the right/wrong place and not attended to in time it can herniate into the scrotum so get er fixed asap,

Twice. 1st after leg day at the gym, younger days, at end of my workout leg pressed 900lbs 7 time. That was on a Friday the following Sunday, while in church got that same pain. Went to see the doc on Tuesday and had surgery on Thursday. Mine was way low right side near my Johnson.
2nd was 3 years ago after I didn't listen to the doc and went back to work and doing what I wanted, after a gallbladder removal.
If he says don't lift for 6-8 weeks DON'T lift for 6-8 weeks or you could undo his work and get to do it all over again.
Having shared, I left what I want to now, if my back will let me. Gettin' old ain't for wussies.

Yep, had that done about 9 years ago. Moving rocks in my yard caused it. No horrible pain initially, but it did get worse. After surgery, follow the doctors orders! You don't want to have that done again.......through the same incision!

Yes.
Almost the same place.
I lifted a BIG riding mower over a log it was trapped on. Didn't feel any pain until next day.
Noticed the bulge and asked my Family Doctor, was referred to specialist and surgery was painless.
Told not to lift or push anything for a couple of weeks, and has never bothered me since.

Had both sides done 2 times each back when I was in my 20s. Had the umbilical thing about 10 years ago. My advice from 5 repairs is follow docs orders.

I had an Inguinal Hernia repaired about 6 months ago, after living with it for 3 years. It will continue to get worse if not repaired. Main concern is if it won't go back in(head for the ER!!). Intestines can become strangulated. If that happens, you only have a few hours before the body may start shutting down. I wore a hernia belt to keep it at bay during hard work days. Depending on your surgeon, insurance situation, and the severity of the rip, they will either go in with laser ( I have 3 small holes(scars) or they have to open you up the old fashioned way. Laser is less invasive with a shorter recoup time. lots of methods to repair the hole. Some staple, some "sew", most use mesh these days. They staple it into the body(in my case staples that dissolve in about 90 days). My surgeon performed the surgery by hand. Another option is the Divinci method that use's robotic arms controlled by the surgeon. Your body needs time to integrate the mesh so it eventually becomes part of you. If you screw up in the 6 months after, you can tear the mesh out of place and get to start over. Mine was done in the surgeons office. In and out in about 4 hours. (needed a ride home). Had a rough first week, but pain was minimal. Since I waited so long, I'm dealing with all the compensating my body had to do to "protect" itself for 3 years. For me, worst part after surgery was relieving myself and BM's. The muscles you use to do that just didn't function for a while. Woke up with the dire need to pee, but often couldn't get myself outta bed in time. I learned to keep a jar next to the bed and just roll onto my side, which was a task in itself.

P.S. While carrying a firearm "appendix" style did not cause my hernia, it was the straw that broke the camel's back. I remember it clearly. In the woods, moving heavy tree's and mine popped right where the muzzle met my groin. I carry at 3 o'clock now when I'm working hard.

Several types of hernias. Yours doesn't appear to be inguinal. Results may vary. Good luck!
