Rural Internet? Starlink is great!

Starlink speeds have gotten better for me over time. Every now and then the speeds drop low and a reset fixes it. There was talk of throttling for a while if you got deemed a “super user” but haven’t heard about it for a while. A lot of people don’t want to pay the price for the hardware, but I read they were selling at a loss at one point (maybe still.)

Costco was running a sale on the hardware for $199 and it included a $90 credit for the service plan. Think it expired at the end of September.

I have had Starlink for 3 years. I live in an area without cable access and had Dish service prior that went out when the wind blew hard. I have had zero weather related outages to speak of with Starlink

Plus

I get to literally pick cafeteria style the channel/streaming services I want to pay for....I like it.

We have Windstream and its around $90 month. We have less than 1/3 of the speed folks are getting with Starlink.
I pay about the same as you ($93) but it was $56 until last month. The thing is that I was "promised" 14 MbPS and consider myself extremely lucky to get 7 MbPS.

I have looked, but not lately, at the Starlink service but have a hard time putting out that initial $600 to get the equipment.

I just went and took another look at Starlink and found that the initial amount is down to $250 and I guess Madison County was in the hurricane path - SO - a Starlink package is on its way to my house.

You'll be happy you did. Few days with the service now and it blows the other service offerings out of the water. Just did this speed test. Middle of the day. Both of us working from home. And I have a lot of connected devices running as well. All running much smoother now. Nothing seems to be bottlenecking like it did with the others.

If you have Windstream and can switch to Starlink just DO IT! The cost is worth it vs the headaches and bull**** plus slow ass speeds from windstream. If you work from home or are a heavy user it will pay for itself in the time and hassle saved.

I've had Starlink since Dec 2023. My Wife and I both work from home and are heavy VOIP and video users on calls and it handled it with no problems & was extremely stable. Spectrum starting offering gigabit fiber in our area in March 2024 and we used both until Spectrum proved to be stable as well. Starlink speeds were consistently 200Mbps plus for both and up and down. I did have a perfectly clear view by eave mounting it. It easily handled everything we used it for including working from home, 4K video streaming, you name it. I am fan.

I keep Starlink as a backup since it is month to month payment and I can activate it within an hour so if Spectrum goes down and I only have to pay for that one month of service. Expensive yes, but we both work from home and cannot work without Internet. The single outage of Spectrum I've had was 4 days. Starlink took over within an hour and we were both back online and working.

Starlink is completely worth it the price per month and for the gear. It is easy to setup and monitor and if you have nothing blocking its view to the sky, you can literally throw on the ground, connect power and have Internet. If the price of the Roam gear ever comes down or goes on sale, Ill be buying that as well to take whenever I travel.
Which package did you go with? Looking to get Starlink as well. Thanks

I'm getting a smoking 13.3
