So. Kind of a long story. But my very first gun bought in 2002 when I was 18 was a ban era ak. Sa85m. Thumb hole stock and no threads. Well I loved the gun I wrote my initials under the plastic butt plate. I sold it before I was 20. Regretted it since. So today I'm picking up a transfer at my local gun store and they had one. I was telling the story about how it was my first gun. He obviously was trying to talk me into buying it. I said if it's got my initials under the butt plate it's sold. Well low and behold that was my ak! I was in disbelief. So obviously I had to put it on lay a way while I help my wife understand why I need another ak.

Making this post because I will be converting it to a pistol grip stock and I'm thinking about threading the barrel. I am familiar with using a thread alignment tool and doing it by hand. Does anyone here have any experience with the sa85m? Is there enough meat to thread it 14mm? Can I get a muzzle device retention pin and use the factory front sight? I don't currently have the gun in my hands. I could probably figure the front sight by looking at it. If I do have to have the front sight post switched out I'll probably pay for that and the threads so I could use a suppressor. That's not absolutely necessary. I would be happy with just the slant brake for the vibes.

Anyone with any experience please chime in. Pic added of my first and newest gun purchase.
