Satuday Night Confessions: AR vs AK

WRONG: WASR is an AKM. Galil is not.
The Galil was developed from the RK62. The RK62 was designed in 1957–1962 by a Valmet engineer and is based on the Polish AK47. 🙂

Semantics. M, no M, Variant, whatever you want to call it, it does not change the fact that the Galil is based on the AK47.

Yep. It's a decent upgrade from an AK. I'm sure all the third world countries that use it appreciate it.

At least the galil ace has concentric bores. Real letdown with my Arsenal Sam7
A concentric SAM7 is more common than a non-concentric SAM7. Aside from your post, I think I’ve seen two other people in 10 years mention a non-concentric milled Arsenal. Besides, it’s a super easy fix with an X37 and shims.

Glad to hear that a concentric bore is more common than not. I guess I've always taken that for granted with my non-commie stuff.
How do shims correct a bore that is not cut down the centerline of a barrel?

The focus is not on the shims. Its the machining at the shoulder. Shims are just a part of the process when mounting an X37 muzzle device to a potentially non-concentric barrel for achieving the ability to properly suppress an AK. Would probably benefit you to read the following article.

I can dig it. And I will admit that back in 14 when I had one of those cheap (AKA realistically price) WASR rifles I wound up changing the wood stock for the dreaded Crapco side folder. Mainly because I found it in sale at a local shop and when I shot the WASR with that midget LOP ( 9" give or take) stock I felt like I had been punched in my right jaw after less than a mag.
I've had two aks, Mac 90 and Yugo m70, both with much more substantial stocks than the wasr. Still got that AK cheek pounding.

If you want to take advantage of a proper AK shooting experience, a Chinese, Bulgarian or Hungarian AKM will provide outstanding performance. Russian is the next step up, ie: SGL, Saiga conversion, etc. Finally, a Gen 1 Galil Ace X39 will offer the best performance. Century imported WASR's are hit or miss in quality, typically junk. They are generally assembled using various buckets of surplus parts and if you are lucky, you may find one without a canted sight. Here is one of my suppressed Gen 1 Galil ACE SBR's, chambered in 7.62x39, finished in Battle Worn Bronze.

If I could afford a Saiga I would buy one unconverted and leave it that way. Assuming the magwell has already been done that's all I would want. That's probably because I've wanted a Norinco Hunter for years.
