The only place I've ever caught them is below Wheeler dam on the TN river. Mighty tasting fish 
Used to be told that weiss had them but with the heavy fishing pressure it gets they were all caught out....
Good luck, if I had one lake to try it would be Blue Ridge Lake or possibly even Lanier.

Clarks Hill lake now called Strom Thurmand lake has alot of Sauger. It holds the state records in both GA and SC for Sauger. It was there where my Dad caught a GA state record Sauger but didnt know what it was until after he had cleaned it for cooking. He thought it was a Walleye. It was 5.5 lbs and the record is around 4 I think. He had it patched back together and mounted. He still has it on his wall. Tough break for the old man.
lanier has sauger and walleye, trouble is that boat traffic is so heavy that night fishing is the only real option. i have never heard of anyone catching more than one or two though. i guess they spread out?
