savage 110 bolt stuck not quite closed, and wont open up either.

So, I bought a 30-06 last year and finally got around to testing it out today.

First round, (I foolishly loaded the entire internal magazine) I went to chamber a round and close the bolt and discovered that I was not able to close it.

I then discovered I was unable to reopen it either.

Before I got with the brute force approach, I thought I'd ask for suggestions on how to clear this rifle, things to try, and help figuring out what the root cause of this problem is.

Rubber mallet, bump the bolt open carefully.

That. Lacking a rubber mallet, a block of wood will suffice.

Question, what should I be looking for to find the cause of this?

Check the chamber throat for obstruction like a ruptured case neck. Make sure there is no grit, gunk, or debris around the bolt and the lugs of the reciever.

How far could you get the bolt closed? Were you able to start turning the bolt?
