I currently have an RRA 10.5 SBR with Stamp yada yada yada. Now then, can I purchase a shorter barrel (7")? I guess the question is, is it the lower that is SBR'd or the upper? I thought it was lower. Laxguy is usually "all knowing" when it comes to this stuff.

Thanks in advance for the input!

On an AR type weapon, the lower is registered as the SBR, not the upper. This will change on different types of rifles though, I believe it depends on where the S/N is located.

the lower is the registered part, but paperwork also indicates the barrel length. if this is a permanent change, you are supposed to notify the atf with a letter but it is a very low priority for them.

the only issue could be if you were to transfer it and the length was different than what was registered. if you are planning on selling it then keep the original upper.

Slap that puppy on. If you decide to get rid of the 10.5" upper permanently, just write a letter to the bros up in wv letting them know the new barrel length.
