Scope for AR10

I just put a Vortex Razor Gen II on a Head Down. LLC., .308 AR and I'm pretty happy with that setup. Geissele mount. You'll want a good - great mount. SPHUR are good kit
I have three.
Never heard of her but I saved as a bookmark look like good mounts.

i have a Primary arms on mine, came with rifle seems pretty good so far.

i have vortex on a couple of other 308 rifles work well.

They have superior customer service in my experience. Way better than 99% of U.S. based companies. They seem to really care about customer satisfaction and utility of their products. They seem like perfectionists to me based on my comms.

I did quite a bit of reading on sniper Hide and they seem to think it's a decent scope for the money. The Blackhound that is. They also mentioned that they were made in the same factory as primary arms now whether that is fact or not I'm not sure it was just mentioned. A couple said that you'd be hard-pressed to find a better scope in the price range but of course that depends on how much you spend. One also recommended looking at the Arken scopes as a decent unit as well. They did a side-by-side test with the blackhound and the Diamondback and one other scope and the Blackhound excelled in all except the reticle. That seems to be the only hat held back is the reticle on the scope is a little busy and a little thick. But I think if you're going to spend $500 I'd be looking something in Vortex. From 299 to 399 they say the Blackhound is a decent scope for an AR setup for long range shooting. Of course I use that term decent loosely as it can be determined by different shooters as what is acceptable. They also mentioned that Blackhound service department is impeccable and Johnny on the spot which means a good deal. Of course don't take what I'm saying as proverb I'm just relaying what I've been reading from Snipers Hide. People rave about Primary Arms scopes being that they're made in the same facility I would imagine you could expect similar quality. It's got me want to try one just to see what it's all about. I go through Scopes like underwear just to see what each has to offer and what each lacks in performance. So far I've been hard pressed to find Scopes that equal Vortex when compared dollar for dollar. It's just the Gen one PST I had a problem with reticlel being too light and daylight hours but since it's been fixed that's a great scope. The reticle was thin enough to where you could get a good sight picture on your target but not thick enough to get in your way like a lot of Scopes are. And now that they've got the illumination problem solved that's a hard act to follow there because are a great scope.

Spur, Scalarworks, Nightforce, Geissele, GDI, and Badger Ordnance all make great 1-piece mounts. Get one with a 20MOA cant, unless your rail already has 20MOA built into it.

I don’t recommend the AmDef mount for an AR10. I’ve seen too many of them allow the scope to slip. Doesn’t seem to happen on a 5.56, however. Before all the AmDef owners start raising hell, I’m not saying every AmDef mount will allow a scope to slip when mounted on an AR10……I’m saying that I’ve seen it happen enough that I wouldn’t recommend it. This includes optics that were mounted by me, with everything done properly and to spec.

Why keep on about it, the only example that’s being made is that the moderators are a joke and like to stir the pot when not necessary. I get I didn’t list a price my bad that’s all you had to say but you’re carrying on about it like it’s some crazy big deal. Also like I stated if he was being serious with his suggestions I appreciate it. No further comments are needed I know what to ask for next time.
Love these new guys coming onboard then showing their ass!!!!!

Man listen to yourself. Don't let them get to you. You do you and discard the crap you didn't ask for. Enjoy the journey of assembling your rig. You can always correct a wrong, like scope selection. Enjoy every minute of it and don't let any of them berate or harass you. " In one ear out the other ". Not everyone wants to sink every spare dime into gun related equipment or eat, sleep and live gun paraphernalia.
Do your own research and go handle the scopes and pick one that has decent reviews and if it fits your needs and has the features you like go for it. For self defense or hunting you really don't need a 2000 dollar scope.

Plus, once you start using $2000 scopes you can‘t go back to the cheap stuff. Ain’t no such thing as ”just as good” in optics.

Cheapest magnified optic I own right now is the Nightforce NXS Compact 2.5-10x32mm, and I mainly use them for hunting. If you like to hunt an extra 45-60mins earlier in the morning, and the same later in the evening, then good optics will make a difference.

The thought of cheaping out on your self-defense optic is mind boggling. That should be your best optics right there. I don’t spend quite $1000 on my self-defense optics, but that’s because I run Aimpoint Micro T1’s and T2’s. The T2 that I run on my primary guns retails for around $800, then add a good mount for another $150 - $200.

When I did run an LPVO on a defensive carbine, it was a Nightforce NX* 1-8x. MSRP is $1760, I think.

I’m not saying you’ve got to mortgage your house to buy optics that you can’t otherwise afford. I didn’t always run “top end” optics, but I damn sure upgraded them when I was able.

The two links I provided above have some excellent deals on close outs, demos, and used warrantied optics from Euro Optic, which is a highly respectable company. Some of the deals are 50% off. Why buy a $500 optic, when you can buy a $1000 optic that is 50% off and selling for $500.

Shooting earlier in the morning, later in the day, during foggy/misty conditions, through a mirage, etc., will quickly show you the value of glass and coatings that didn’t come from China or the Philippines. Hunting somewhere that has a criteria on how many points on a buck’s rack before you can shoot, and you may need that better glass for a positive ID. Can’t count how many hunters I know that have dropped what they thought was a doe, and then found it to be a spike.

In my 40 years of hunting, and 30 years of teaching folks to shoot, I’ve seen more optics crap out than I can begin to count. Rarely were they “top end” optics.

Why spoil your hunt by having your scope fail on you in the field?

I’ve had students travel hours to train with me, and then have their optic fail on them. I end up loaning them a scope, or a complete rig, so that they can train.

You buy a scope to put on a “fun gun”. Not being able to shoot a group, or hold zero, or return to zero, or even see the target, because you bought a cheap scope doesn’t sound very fun to me.

I don’t think I should have to expound what can happen when your SD optic fails on you. I know of dudes that have pulled their carbine or rifle out in a tense situation, and found the lenses in their cheap optics fogged up, or even condensation inside the optic.

Buy once, cry once.

You can get a decent scope for a grand. Now that we do have a budget, what features are important to you? What type of reticle, ffp or 2fp would be two things to really figure out.

As soon as you go chinese, it's a complete crap shoot on quality. At best, you are hoping they perform ok. Track ok. Glass is OK at best. Reliability and chinese scopes are nearly mutually exclusive.

Listen to these statements of GREAT advice! Don't cheat yourself, treat yourself.
