Scope turrets

I'm new to long range shooting and I have seen a few things on turrets. Can anyone guide me in the right direction about pros and cons? Are they functional? What happens if your scope gets bumped? Tia.

I like turrets with screw-on covers, unless it's just a range toy. Too easy to bump.

Good one! You have to commit to smartassery every third post. Many scopes will have a locking feature. Pull up to turn and push down to lock. You can also set the dial to zero once you're sighted in.

If your scope adjustments get knocked off, you turn them back to where you want them.

I good quality scope will have turrets that aren’t easily knocked out of adjustment.

Some have covered or capped turrets, and on some these are optional.

Like was said above, some have locking turrets of various designs.

Locking turrets are helpful for knocks, as well as having a zero stop.

Capped turrets will prevent them from an inadvertent twist, but they take time to take off and put on and you have to keep track of them.
