This is by no means a "bashing" thread what's so ever. The work that was done is quality from what I can tell and the selection of gun parts and ammo is decent. The following is just a copy and past of the google review I left for them. This is my story:
I was quoted $45 for a tap and drill job on an AK over the phone. The gun Smith said it's an easy job and should be only an hours worth of labor.
I walk in to the shop, was greeted by the guy that I spoke to over the phone. He was nice and helpful. I also let him know that I needed a pin pressed for my ALG AK trigger because the safety wasn't catching. He says "no problem". I also needed a castle nut and sling plate and the guy quoted me "about $5 for each". I say "ok great let's do it".
We chat a while and I look at some guns and leave.
Picked up my AK today and the work is fine. I see the invoice and the charge is $137! How in the hell did a $45 job triple?! The gun smith that I left my gun with said "you gotta talk to him, he's the one that did the work" as he pointed to an older guy at the register. I'm thinking, "I left the gun with you! You quoted me this price why would he do the work?"
Turns out the other guy is the owner or something and he said that the "simple" drill and tap job some how turned into a 2 hour job. Then he charged me an entire hour for pressing the ALG safety pin. I told him that pressing a pin takes less than 5 minutes and the only reason I asked hem to do it because my vice is broken. He then told me that "well you gotta take the trigger out" trying to justify the charge. I CAN TAKE THE TRIGGER OUT OF AN AK USING NOTHING BUT A STANDARD PUNCH! And you're a "professional" gun smith that takes an hour to pull a trigger out? He then said that he had to file the pin down to get the safety to work which is true...thats why if he would have just communicated with the original smith he would have known that I just wanted the pin pressed, NOT FITTED!
He asked what I thought was fair and I told him that an hours labor and parts (what they quoted me in the first place) was fair. He had the audacity to say that he would knock $20 off. GTFOH.
I told him that the ODT would hear about this sleazy bait and switch and he laughed and said "the ODT hates us anyways"...ok cool, I obviously know why.
He finally says he's going to give me a "deal" and charge me $94. With the caveat that I give SGI guns a good review on the trader. Yeah right bro....At this point I am fuming and would rather not cuss this guy out so I paid and left.
Worst experience I have ever had with any gun shop...and I've been to adventure outdoors.
Should've went to Dobbs.
Any of y'all felt with them? I don't look like your typical gun guy so I guess they thought they could pull a fast one on me. I'm like "bro...I'm an OG ODTr, class of 2010, I know my ****znats."
Rant over and I feel better now.
