I was wondering what other folks are hunting with this year... I finally had the 308 built I have been putting off for a long time and finally bit the bullet...

Joe Collier ( Rifles )who is an awesome builder and also a super nice guy... helped me get the project from paper into my hands... this setup is better than I thought it would be!!!

I am still deciding which bullet to use and I have some testing to do this weekend... What is your favorite 308 round for white tail deer? I am including some of the build specs below. Keep in mind I wanted a short 308 for a suppressor host so keep that in mind.

Shoots 168 Barnes very well...

For Georgia whitetail, it’s usually the same Remington 788 .308 that I’ve used for 30 years now. Glass-bedded, re-crowned, topped with a first generation Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8x36mm, and loaded with Georgia Arms 165grn Nosler Ballistic Tips. It’s the rifle on the bottom.

I like to take out the Winchester 94 .30-30 now and again. Started as a 20” heavy octagon version, which I chopped to 16” into a short rifle. Williams receiver rear sight and a Marble sourdough front sight, with Federal 170grn Fusions.

If I ever finished installing a Winchester bolt-mounted peep sight to my 1942 Winchester 71 .348 Winchester, I’d like to take it in the woods.

I’m taking my SIG Cross .308 to Montana for elk this year. I’ve got a cow elk tag, a doe tag (whitetail or mule), and a pronghorn doe tag. Topped with a Nightforce NX8 F1 4-32x50mm.

I go to SE Ohio for whitetail every year, and hunt with family. You have to use a straight-walled cartridge up there, so I take two rifles chambered in .375 Winchester. Both are topped with identical Nightforce NXS Compact 2.5-10x32mm scopes.

Top one is a Ruger No. 3 single-shot. Bottom one is a Winchester 375.

May be my daughter’s first year whitetail hunting. I picked up this rifle, but haven’t shot it yet. If she shoots it well, this will probably be hers. .257 Roberts, on a surplus Mauser action. Great whitetail cartridge, low recoiling, and lightweight. Scope is a Leupold VX3-HD CDS-ZL.

Managed to get to the range today… I got the trigger adjusted to my liking… then shot first 3 shot group at 100 yards.

I adjusted the gun a little more and shot another 3 shot group…

Made a few more adjustments and shot one more group and the MV settled down at 2675 with 150gr blk tip.
