I need to ship my .45 cal 1911 to Wilson Combat in Arkansas for some work. Shipping will be from an "unlicensed" (me) to a licensed FFL(Wilson Combat). After reading detailed shipping laws for pistols on Gunbroker's shipping education pages it seems I have only one option. To mail overnight delivery via a "contractor".

FedEx and USPS told me they do not ship pistols unless FFL to FFL so they refused. UPS does ship overnight from unlicensed to a FFL. The catch is the best overnight UPS rate I can find with insurance is about $110.

Any more reasonable cost/shipping options?

My local gunshop shipped a rifle for me last week for $35 with $1500 in insurance, signature required...... I would shop around.... $110 is too much........

Find a local FFL and let them do it for you.

Reason, Wilson will have to send it back to a FFL anyway so might as well make those arrangements now so you have everything ready to go when they are done with it.

If it is warranty work, Wilson should send you a prepaid box or a label to print out. Then, UPS will send it no problem, and it can be sent directly back to you. At least that's the way Ruger did it for me. I'd call Wilson. Good luck.

I have shipped handguns through fedex before. The catch, you have to drop it off at a hub and it's like $75 for overnight. In other words, a ripoff. FFL can send it via USPS for much cheaper.
