Shipping a pistol without breaking the bank??????

Completely editing my post because it looks like you do now have to notify a carrier you are shipping a firearm. This is another garbage law btw. Just do a search for either UPS and/or Fedex and stolen firearms, and you will see a ton of stolen/lost reports.

Ship it via FFL like the others advised.

"The BATFE states, “In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.”

I shipped one fedex once.
They did it, but it was $100 bucks.

I recommend taking it to an ffl or boxing it up and just shipping based on weight

Find a local FFL and let them do it for you.

Reason, Wilson will have to send it back to a FFL anyway so might as well make those arrangements now so you have everything ready to go when they are done with it.

That statement is incorrect. Wilson will be able to ship directly back to the owner. There is no change in ownership so Wilson does not have to ship to an FFL and you dont have to go to an FFL and fill out a 4473 on a gun that you already own.

I stand corrected. You are 100% right. I had been advised in-correctly for the sake of profit I'm sure. :(

From the ATF's website:

Firearms shipped to FFLs for repair or any other lawful purpose may be returned to the person from whom received without transferring the firearm through an FFL in the recipient’s State of residence. FFLs may also return a replacement firearm of the same kind and type to the person from whom received. 18 U.S.C. § 922(a)(2)(A).

UPS says next day, but I shipped one 2nd day air last week and it went through no issues. It was insured and I told the UPS clerk that it contained a firearm. I didn't do it on purpose, as I thought the only requirement was that it go by air. About half the cost of next day.

You guys with good LGS around are lucky. I have probably a dozen or more gun stores close to me and the best one, Dana Safety, lost my business with the whole no ARs to civilians fiasco. Incidentally, they are the only ones that offer this service at a very reasonable cost. Some of the other places want $50 to do the service, plus postage. They've lost their ********** minds.

You'd has a money saver on the overnight shipping. Overnight usually means by 10 the next day. But you can use the money saver and it will get there the next day when normal delivery time is.

The reason behind them wanting it to go overnight is so it's in their hands for as short s time as possible.
