I have one made by Pet Safe that claims 1k yards. It's done at least a few hundred through woods before.

How do you plan to use it? Training (ie. shock to get resulting behavior), or for containing to your yard?
I have a Garmin Delta XC for my German and it works great. 0.5 mile range and the batteries seem to last forever on a single charge. I got it for right at 150$ if I remember right
