if hunting or shooting pests for a round or two I normally don't. at the range yes. got some colibri's to shoot in the back yard and they sound the same as a pellet gun or suppressed rifle.

they do not cycle any auto weapon, since there is no powder to create blowback. a single shot or lever action rifle is best. they are still kinda snappy out of a pistol

As Biker posted 85db or > causes hearing damage. Believe me it doesn't come back and as you get older it gets worse. Aides are usually +-$2500 per ear. Plus a pain in the ass to wear. I lost 80% of my hearing anything over 10kHZ. Tinnitus can drive you crazy constant ringing , so the next range time even with a .22 wear hearing protection.
DefDave my new screen name give to me by certain ODT folks:rolleyes:

Wish I could find me some of these, I shoot the Agulia Super Colibre out of my CZ 513.

Check with BTL FED. He was the one that gave me info on where to buy some. But, ADD has me not remembering who the vendor or what site they came from...haven't tried them to see how they cycle in a semi yet.

We use both types of the colibres often in classes. They won't cycle in any semi-auto that we've used but they do feed through our LCR revolvers & our M&P pistols although they have to be manually cycled after each shot in the semi-autos.

As I type this, I hear nothing but a faint ringing.

Fan has to be kept on most nights so the ringing is drowned out. My actual loss if hearing is minimal.

The tinnitus caused by not wearing protection while shooting in my youth is pretty obnoxious.

.22 lr causes damage to the inner ear.

The inner ear does not heal from this damage.

Therefore, damage to the inner ear from gunshots is cumulative and will (100% of the time) lead to tinnitus and hearing loss.

I even wear plugs while cutting grass nowadays.

Wear hearing protection.

Get a set of noise cancelling protector. I have a nice set that actually pick up a lot more than I can hear. If I stand still and don't make any movement, I can hear leave rustle when something else move.
