People join for different reasons. I was selling down a gun collection and found the site when GON crapped out. All I wanted was to sell a few more guns. I stayed. If I had sold a few guns and left, I would have accomplished my objective and a few buyers would have been satisfied too. Speaking of GON, a lot of rules and restrictions is what made them crap out. Putting a lot of restrictions at the outset will likely keep some of the new members from joining. Some will be one sale/buy wonders and they did what they came for as did a member who wanted to buy or sell an item. Some will stay and become long time members. Besides, low ball is in the eye of the beholder. If you don't care to deal with a new comer until they have some track record, that is your business. Making another rule restricting new members is a bad thing.

It's a situation of having to take the good with the bad IMO. If it hadn't been for the classifieds here, I wouldn't have felt comfortable enough to test the waters & step into any conversations.
Because I learned, via making deals with ODT members through the classifieds, I became a sponser & now visit the site multiplpe times a week if not daily.
As far as the low ball offers, I dont' understand why everyone gets so mad about it. It's not like they get it for the first offer they make. You still own the item & just have to tell them no. If they try to argue with you about it, it's their problem & you don't have to feed the trolls.
I've been offers hundreds less than my post before. I still have my item & the low baller does not. No harm, no foul.

That's just my opinion though.

You can speculate, but it's not gonna happen. You were new once, and Steve wasn't waiting for you to show up and get comfortable before slamming the door on anyone else. New folks are the the lifeblood of the operation and we need to welcome and educate them. Those that are here to cause trouble won't adapt to the rules we will self police - as designed - and they will be gone.

No restrictions, no waiting time for new members. Why would we do that? I understand and appreciate the question, but to me it is a character issue. The character of the member is not going to change when they reach a certain number of posts. They are what they are from the start.

Winner !!!! well said sir

This forum was designed to be a trading place. the community came after. Do what we have always done in the past. educate the new member and if that still does not work then place him/her on your ignore list. The reason this forum works is because it is an open and friendly place for everyone, including new comers. If we impose a post count rule then I believe an elitist attitude will follow. The "true" ODT at it's core is a trading forum. If you happen to have circle of friends or family that you wish to associate your self with then by all means do it but it would not be fare it impose it on new comer simply because they are new.

i didnt hear about this site till last year, some members gave me a chance, and look at me now.......awww sweet story huh. Dont get misty on me

Hate to say it... But it's attracting the "Craigslist" generation...

look at my feedback , i came from craigslist:eek: when the odt first started up there was post all over craigs about theoutdoorstrader , several members if not half came from there, they are people just like you and me

When I started out, that was one of the main reasons I came to this site, because anyone can post. I went to make a post on snipers hide and they said I couldn't until I reached 100 posts. I told'em to shove it. People come cause they can sell, they stay because it's awesome.
