I am, it's an ongoing process...lol....It is probably going to be a Miata...as they say Miata is always the answer. I've ruled out a BMW, I like the classics but I don't particularly care to work on them these days.

The Miata seems to have a pretty good support network of specialty shops around the area as well, which is always a help.

Fiats roadsters also are interesting especially in the cost department.

I haven't completely ruled out Porsche, and they seem to have a pretty good support network as well. I just haven't decided if I am ready to stomach Porsche maintenance and parts costs.

It has been a number of years since I have been able to consider a car just for fun...so I am going to take my time and keep an eye out.

You jump into European, you're going to spend money. I've been learning first hand for the last five years

When my three sons were younger, I had a hobby garage with lift and we spent a lot of time swapping Jap engines (SR20DET, RB20/25DET) engines into US 240 SX Nissans. When they were in school, I bought them new cars and wouldn't allow them to modify them, so I suggested that they come up with a single car that we could all modify together. I traveled all over the Southeast buying various Nissan 240SX S13/S14/S15 chassis cars for those swaps. Good times with the boys, all of which are engineers today, realizing that the "grease monkey" jobs were fun but wouldn't give them the higher salaries they were looking for.

Pic below of four of the 15 or so that we modified. The '89 Coupe, on the left in the top photo, was one that I did a complete semi-frame off restoration, including paint. The only "roadster" is the one on the far right, with a boosted RB20DET, which ran a 13.5 second quarter mile in Montgomery with street tires. That was a real thrill for my 16 year old son that helped build it!

Yeah that was in 1988. Then you add worked over Dart heads and a 1071 buffer ( so big it makes the motor look funny ) and all the supporting mods. You can see where I am going here. $$$$$$$$$$$

No sir. Shortened a 9” Ford with Currie axles , 3.73 gears and Tom Woods shaft.

Ridiculously hopped up 454 with T350, nice cam and mild stall. Had to be very diplomatic with the right pedal turning from a stop sign or you would be looking at the grill of the car that used to be following you 😂 😂 😂

Lol, I believe that, very light cars. Even with my mildly hopped up flathead, it will spin the tires very easily.

The better transmission is debatable as many prefer Miata's. There's an Abarth locally and I'm in need of a commuter. It's the perfect color scheme and I think a gorgeous little car. If it didn't have that god-awful turbo in it I'd buy it in a heartbeat. The search continues...

I really like mine... well, I didn't like driving it Saturday. Still a little ice on the road. It's the 1st time I've ever driven it at the speed limit, that's not nearly as much fun.
