SHTF in metro suburbs

If there are warning signs, say a day or so worth, that lead me to believe it is more than 30-40% likely to happen in the next few days, I would be heading North as well. My wife's family has a farm in the Missouri hills. Packing up the truck and Volvo (yes, I admit it), and getting the hell away from Atlanta. No offense intended to those born here, but I don't know anyone down here that I know I can trust AND has a well. Y'all would be welcome to any prep items left in the house.

On the other hand, if there was not enough warning to make it 600 miles, I figure I am probably screwed as my house wasn't built for a protracted siege.

Most kids in the NG are not "preppers" in the least. In fact, most "preppers" are keyboard commandos who envision a tom clancy style scenario where like I said in my first post, they'll wake up and everyone is rioting all at once and trying to snatch their "preps". Not to discredit that notion but it is highly unlikely to go about that route.

The NG will surely play a factor in this, as will the AD army and USMC. Both being a force to be reckoned with. Containing ATL with "force" would not be an issue, there is nothing that people can do do an IFV. Period.

I seriously doubt people will want to confront these troops face to face either, it's not like it is in the movies, and if anything their presence will be a reassuring sign of relief that the government is still in control and fixing the problem. Which, I hope would be the case.

Most of your post I could agree with, just not that the Military would just NOT show up for duty. No way.

depends on the severity of the crisis, but your opinion on this is theory, mine is based on talking to many many people in le and reserve/ng ...if it is a major problem, like the gov't running out of money, they will be home or where ever taking care of their families....the gov't has no plans to take care of even the military,their plans are limited to taking care of the top echelons so they can re-establish control at some later date...

If the guardsmen were properly informed they woud NOT be getting paid, word would spread like wildfire, then your deserters would show up I can agree with that. But if the military were to still be in full swing, I see that highly unlikely. I know lot's of mill too ;)
 
I think what most have said, Government will run out of money and people start rioting. More than likely taking unnecessary items such as tv's, xboxs, stereos, etc. Don't have a bug out location currently, so would be bugging in. Wouldn't be going out looking to get into a fire fight, try to stick around the house and protect from looters. Probably looting usable items from neighbors homes that have fled. Unsure on what NG would be doing at that point. Don't think they would do much if not getting paid. I mainly think most people out doing their foolish careless acts will be killed by each other. I definitely think something is coming in the future. Our country is slowly destroying itself. We are being pushed further and further toward a socialist system. The same systems that are falling one by one in Europe. Not enough people here care to do anything about it. Everyone wants a handout and no one cares what impact it is going to have on our future. I am not into the Zombie Apocalypse scenario, however I see us going into a deep depression.

I think we survived the great depression back in 28-45 (jesus that's a long time of living like ****) because people were a little more tolerable to being underprivelaged. People had more etiquette as well, you saw people holding a steady calm line for bread and soup.

Could you imagine a "soup line" in downtown (or southside) Atlanta?
