I recently picked up a gently used Sig 556 rifle. I have owned numerous Sig handguns, but this is my first Sig rifle and my first piston rifle. I am looking for impressions and accounts from y'all out there who currently own one or have owned one in the past. Any helpful information is appreciated. Thx y'all. Be safe.

Does 556R count? Rock-solid rail for my ACOG, wish it came with front BUIS but otherwise satisfied as shooter, hits what I aim at, easy to disassemble and clean considering most 7,62x39 ammo is corrosive, some say trigger-creep is excessive, but I don't notice. I never fired the .223 version SIG.
Same here. Just got a 556R and absolutely love it.

I have over 3000 rds thru mine without a single failure. Sub moa with scope and match-grade ammo (best for me is FGMM 77gr). Still does not need cleaning other than running a bore-snake thru it however, I have wiped the bolt down and re-oiled it. I have a padded sling installed upside down and carry it butt stock up...no sharp edges to irritate my back and can carry it all day in relative comfort.

Nice! My serial # is a JS with the remaining #s being under 6000. As soon as I break it down I'll check the internal parts for.the markings you described and showed in your photos. I appreciate the info yall. It appears I snagged a good piece.

Yeah these things are nice weapons, I like mine better than the M4 I have.

I luv the design but 2 things get on my nerves: 1. the sloppiness between the upper & lower, I have never seen a tight fitting one. 2. The skinny barrels, I like more meat on my barrels.
