Sightmark Photon "zero"

Good advice. I had not thought of that. I was of the opinion that even a cheap scope should be okay for armadillos at 50 yards or less, on a .22LR. It is sure worth trying shims. Thank you.

Yeah just do some searching around, and you'll see the different ways people shimmed it. Here's one quick thread. https://www.ar15.com/forums/armory/no_adjustment_left_in_Sightmark_Photon_XT_4_6x42S/18-471997/

I had one years ago when I first got into night hunting, and it worked well, but I had to shim it on one rifle. I would also add a supplemental IR light to give you a better viewing area. The biggest limitations are going to be lag so you can't get off quick multiple shots and if you're in an area with a lot of brush, you'll get bloom from your IR off the leaves.

It's a cheap way to see if you want to get into night hunting. Thermal, PVS-14, goggles, etc., are game changers, but they ain't cheap.
