You can. Many people like the ease of tracking when a personal check is cashed though via their bank's website. The USPS has a phone number, probably a site too, that allows you to check if one of their MO has been cashed too though.

I'd prefer not to have a bounced check if it caught me at the ass end of a short paycheck.

Yep, bounced checks will definitely cause a hangup at the ATF.

With a trust, you actually are not technically the owner. The property is owned by the trust and you are the Trustee and beneficiary of the trust. It is pretty much a legal fiction, but it can lead to some mistakes if you don't do it right.

A Willmaker trust or homemade trust will work unless you just really mess it up. However, it does not address some issues that are specific to a trust set up for the purpose of holding NFA items, as that is not what it is set up to do.
