I went to Japan around 8 years ago and LOVED the country. My wife is from Osaka and we flew down there to visit her grandma, who took us to what may have been the best Japanese restaurant I've ever been to. The pork katsu bowl at this restaurant was probably the best meal I've ever had. McDonald's Japan was incredible, too, as was the entire country in general. I wish I had gotten more time in Tokyo to explore, but going to the "non-tourist" places hit different. Japanese BBQ also was one of the best things I've ever eaten.Do go to Japan sometime. It's just about the favorite country of everyone I know who has visited.
Fun footnote: my wife's grandma shared at dinner (that evening we went to the above restaurant) that she remembers the United States bombers flying overhead to drop nukes in the north and the propaganda they were taught in school about Americans in the 1940s. I'll never forget that meal and conversation.
