I'm a fan of them for new shooters and for draw and fire drills. I have the metal version for myself and a few of the polymers for students. Great tool. I just wish that it had a working slide to simulate reloads.
You can also put real night sights on them. The weight of the metal model is the same as my G17, so I can use my holster, light, etc. and get the same first shot sight picture over and over without needing to use real ammo. I like it a bit more than dry-fire because I get feedback about my trigger work and if I'm cheating on the fundamentals.
