Yeah I can't think of anything quite as ugly as an SKS with a side folder or worse yet a Tapco plastic retractable stock. Quit trying to make it what it wasn't meant to be.
I'll promise you this. If I ever get my hands on another SKS or Type 53 I'm gonna engrave my name and birthday right into the metal in big ugly letters so that nobody else will want them. That way I'll have to keep them forever.

The first SKS I bought was a side folder and I still have it. It's a non numbers-matching bastard of a rifle and it's fun to shoot. I would never buy another one like it. I do have a couple of unmolested Norincos, a Yugo, and a Russian. The Russian is in a Monte Carlo stock. The price was right and I figured it would be my only chance to get one. If I come across a complete Russian wood stock I will buy that and make it right. All the numbers are matching.
