Looking for a model 617 S & W 22 lr 10 shot Stainless with no lock. Prefer 4 inch but will consider 6 inch

You know... you can get a 10-shot cylinder from Smith that is engineered for your specific gun if you don't mind sending it back to them.

I LOVE my 8-3/8" 617! All you have to do is point and shoot and it hits the target ALL BY ITSELF!

Yes thats a very good point. my dash 1 is like that and you get to keep both cylinders
 
I think that when you send back they change the hand and the 6 shot cylinder will no longer work. I really don't like the action on the 10 shot does not feel right.
They allow you to keep the old hand if you decide to install it back in. Most pre lock ones were 6 shot until dash 4

That's odd. I have both 6-shot and 10-shot models and they both feel exactly the same. Maybe somebody "worked" on yours and didn't do a real good job.
