Snake Backup Pistol

This has been covered in various ways. Specifically, I carry a 9mm but wonder whether it'd be useful to have something like an NAA .22 mag with snake shot when working in the yard. We have copperheads and moccasins on occasion in the back of the yard, where we back up to a creek.

I have a .22 Beretta Bobcat, but it's either that or the 9mm not both. I have a .32 Tomcat but I can't find snake shot in .32. I have a couple of .32 revolvers, same thing. None in .380 either. I know there are plenty of options, but my habit is just to grab the extra, not make a complete change depending on what I'm doing.

So for those who know . . . might an NAA .22 mag with snake shot be effective at all, or would I be better off just throwing a brick at the snake?

Killed a few with my NAA Black Widow using CCI shotshells. Never tried shots longer than 2-3 ft though. I'd make sure you are shooting at them in the dirt, and not on the driveway though....

Ive got a 2 in 357 I tote in my pocket around the house and yard first 2 are #4 snake shot. Wife has a RUGER LCR in 38 as her carry gun and first 2 are #4 shot as well.

Same here… 38 with shot shells when yard duty time

I keep a Taurus ultra light 38 spl loaded with snake shot for just such an occasion.

That’s the issue. I have a Walther 9mm EDC. I also have a .380, a Wrangler bird’s head .22, and several other smaller calibers. But I’d like to carry the 9mm and have a snake pistol. It might be more practical to get another air weight .38 for yard work and put a couple of snake rounds in it if the NAA won’t do the job (2-3 feet is shorter than my hand to my foot LOL!)

The NAA Black Widow at 4ft works. Lightweight and will do the job.
Another option is a Bond Arms Derringer. With CCI Snake shot in 45 colt, 357 or 45ACP they offer a harder hitting payload
I got one with my LCP 380 with standard ammo but it took a couple shots to nail it.
