All you need to know is:

<5,000 = LNIB
5,000 = Unfired by me
10,000 = Doesn't look like it was shot much
15,000 += Unknown round count but looks low

I would say it depends on the barrel and how many rounds life expectancy from it. I prefer to get one new so I can keep track of the round count so I know when to replace the barrel. Not that I have been able to shoot that many rounds and probably never will lol

You will know when to replace the barrel when you stop hitting the target. Most recreational shooters with decent AR's will never wear it out to this point (10,000 plus rounds very rough estimate and dependent on many factors).

It depends on the accuracy you're looking for. BCM has the "Filthy 14" that has gone for 40k+ rounds:

If you're looking for sub-moa you'll probably replace the barrel after a couple thousand rounds.

i put 50,000 rounds through a spikes 14.5 dyna comp model and still poa/poi love that rifle,wish is still had it!

if all you shoot is brass cased ammo i would except 15k life on a rough estimate.

if you shoot steel keep an eye on it.

but CHF is the way to go. my oldest AR has about 3k through it and shoots like the day i bought it (it is not CHF).
