It depends on the accuracy you're looking for. BCM has the "Filthy 14" that has gone for 40k+ rounds:

If you're looking for sub-moa you'll probably replace the barrel after a couple thousand rounds.

You're getting good info. 10-15K rounds depending on ammo then you just need a re barrel. $300-$400 you'll know when you cant hit a 100yd gong. The rest of the gun will still be fine. Replace other worn parts as needed. That' s a defensive carbine. If you're buying a precision varmint gun and expect sub MOA then you may re barrel in a few thousand rounds or when the accuracy drops below your expectations. If it's not a FRANKEN gun they are hard to kill. But I figure when you've shot $5K worth of ammo through a $1K gun it owes you nothing.

Colt rates their barrels at a 10k round life. Daniel Defense rates theirs at 20k. We've had Colts traded in from agencies with 50k+ rounds through them that were still usable. YMMV.

I've always figured that if a gun has shot 10,000 it will probably shoot the 10,001 when I really need it to perform.
A gun with 50 rounds through it is still in proven to me.

I've always heard that the general rule of thumb is 10k rounds for non-chrome lined or non-melonite barrels or 15k rounds for CL / melonite is the point at which accuracy will begin to fall off. Not that the barrel won't work after reaching these counts but you'll start to see groups open up at distance.

Again, this is pretty general and can vary based on barrel rifling method, quality, ammo used, care taken, etc.

I have an older Bushmaster with a chrome lined barrel. It's 15 years old and I have probably averaged at least 800 to a 1000 rounds a year, often much more than that. That's about 13,500 rounds. It still runs reliably and is a sub MOA rifle with the right ammo. I have not babied it and have run it very hard at times. I'm still completely confident with it's capabilities.
