My son went to welding school a few months ago and got a couple certs
And is good at stainless and aluminum but couldn’t find a decent welding job
Most offers were for slightly over minimum wage and every employer wanted several years experience before they would even talk to you
So he went back to school for something else

I am kinda ramrodding this. My students will be competing along with other people. The pay for welders just starting seems to be increasing rapidly. $14-$24 has been the starting salary.
He was making $12 I think doing welding and fab and wiring and plumbing
Working at a place the built fire trucks
He went to a state vo tech school for a CDL and got hire by a company that is training him for heavy haul oversize loads
9-12 months paid training and then they put him in his own rig
This week they are hauling something that weighs 170,000 lbs and cost $15 million
They even have someone that stays awake at night when they are parked to keep an eye on the cargo
Last weeks load wasn’t heavy but got moved 2000 miles and was 17 feet wide and cost $80 mil
Pilot cars , police escort to block traffic etc
Very cool! I may have to come by and bring a few of my older kids to let them check it out and see if it catches any of their interest.
