Wondering if anyone who is a trainer or runs their XD hard can refute or confirm this trainer's comments on the XD's reliability? He basically claims that they have to go back to the Springfield (or an authorized representative) after 6k rounds.

The only thing I’ve ever broken on any XD model was the striker retainer pin.

I upgraded it from a hollow roll pin to a spring roll pin and never had another one break.

Is that the pin on top of the slide behind the breech he claims will work itself up and make you have to send it in for service after firing only 500 rounds in a fast paced class?

cmshoot cmshoot and @CHirt what are your observations on the XD in your classes?

I would think after running $2400.00 worth of ammo thru a $400.00 pistol, sending it back for service, would be no big deal IMHO.Now if its a $3000.00 NightHawk or Ed Brown that needs this"Houston we have a problem!"
You need to knock it off with the common sense.

About a month ago, Primary Arms had the XD9 for under $300 shipped. That's probably the price range you want to be with these.

Every XD I've ever owned was VERY reliable and run like a top. Is it a Sig or a Glock? Nope. Will it suit a "regular Joe" just fine? In my opinion, yes.

Having said that, I had a customer service issue with Springfield (problem with a mag. Not a big deal, Glock/Sig/Ruger would have rectified it without batting an eye, but Springfield? Eh, not so much) that left a bitter taste in my mouth, so they're not exactly high on my list of manufacturers.

Hmmm! One of those customer No Service that Clark Howard is always talking about.Thats too bad as I also own a Springfield RO.Hopefully if ever needed,I will be able to yield a different result

Yeah, it was strange. I had a problem with a mag. Called them, explained the situation, they said no problem, send it to us and we'll send you a replacement. Cool! So, I did, and I waited and waited...no replacement mag. So, I called them, explained the deal, and they said "Yeah, we got it, we'll send you a replacement for $35". I said no, that's not what you told me. They said, well, that's the deal, or they'd send me the defective mag back.

Was it "that" big of a deal? Nope. But the fact that they lied to me, plus Glock (and others) would have made it right with zero issues at all, it just pissed me off.

Not a big deal, but a lesson learned.
