Stocks, ETF, Funds and General Investing

My papaw was a mail man when he got out of the army. My nana is 94 now and still living off of his investments. She has recently bought an extra 2 homes (long story). Living with in your means is most of the problem/solution. The next would be making good investments. She has never had to worry about anything financially because of the way they used money. The biggest problem today is the way people spend money. If you live paycheck to paycheck you are screwed. The wife and I have recently started working with a money man to help make sure I can retire long before the age of 67 or whatever it is at now. the way he has it set up I'll have no problems. He has been a big help.

I agree with all but #2. I'm 100% for putting the company match in. I only contribute to my 401k for the company match. I'm far from 55 and don't have a need to max out my 401k contributions.

This is where you could be missing out big. By deferring taxable income and placing it in your 401 K. You decrease your tax base, the less you are paying to Uncle Sam and the more you are able to make your money work for you.

Apples and oranges... my post and your initial reaponse was re.. 401k.
Companies are offering Roth 401ks now. You can elect post tax dollars go in where they grow and never get taxed because you paid the tax now and the company mtch goes to the traditional tax deferred account. I’m packing 9% into a Roth and my company matched 3% and had a 2.5% profit share also
