It would be a useful tool.
It would be pretty hard to build something from scratch that was comprehensive and useful. There are several services already in existence, including this one that charges per search:

Just curiously OS, why would it cost any money at all to do it? As long as its incorporated with the forums.
The one I'm thinking of is nothing complicated at all. It's just a subforum within the ODT, that people can put their stolen firearm information into for other ODT members to see and be on the lookout for. It would require no outside help. It would be similar to the classifieds, just with stolen firearms.
Ditto, you don't want to be scrolling through threads. Being able to search the serial number and pull up pics and information would alert you its stolen. Only problem is searching it during the meet. Now, we could have an optional feature that would be like a verification system. When you.enter information on the board it verifies its clean status or alerts you and the admin of a stolen gun. However, you'd need to be on a federal list for this to work well... It could be considered stolen in Cali, but no reports in GA so you wouldn't.know either way.. Then comes overhead of updating the list, then serious risk involved when checking a potentially stolen gun.and the Guy that stole it catching on and shooting you.. etcTo really be a useful tool it would have to have it's own searchable database, search form, and entry form.

I agree with you, but how would that cost any extra money? As long as it's still on the ODT website and doesn't require anything from other websites.
Because the infrastructure would still have to be built by a developer
