. They're cheap, ubiquitous, commie guns, meant for spraying lots of cheap lead...so who cares? If I own it,and want to mod. it to better suit my tastes...who gives a sh-- what others think? I sure don't. Now,if/when you go to re-sell it..that's when you'll pay for modding it,just like classic cars, etc. Thanks for reminding me,when I get home today..I'm going to Krylon my SKS to hide where the bluing is worn/chipped & the Choate stock is scuffed up,not to mention me cutting all that useless bayonet lug **** off+recrowning the barrel!
Amen, brother! For the love of God and all that's small and holy!! Stop screwing with your SKS or Nagant. Leave the dam thing alone!! All you are doing is ****ing up a curio and relic firearm and making it worth less. Tapco and SKS should not be in the same sentence, nor should they ever touch each other. You are taking a perfectly beautiful firearm and making it look like a dam worthless whore when you change out the stock, add a new gas tube, and put a 20rd mag that jams everytime anyway. If you feel compelled to do anything to it, maybe a very light sanding and some stain on the wood. Don't sand out the scratches or dents, that's what makes it wonderful. Sorry, just had to say it.
I agree to an extent. I have tapco'd a couple of SKSs...one because it was purchased with a plastic stock and I figured I'd just play around with tac'ing one out. The other had a busted stock..so I tapco'd it. Hated them both and sold/traded them. To be honest, I don't much care for SKS's anyway they come...much prefer the AK platform.
Mosins are roughly a dime a dozen. They are ugly and not very user friendly (ergonomic nightmare)...still, generally, I wouldn't mess with one. Of all the Mosins, I consider the M44 the only style worth having. I did however run across this little nugget not too long ago. While I find most sporterized war rifles vulgar / repulsive...I freaking LOVE this Mosin and wouldn't trade it for a fresh crate of M44s. Besides everything was professionally fit and finished, cut crowned and properly tapped for iron sights (no scope), it was also glass bedded and floated. This is the sweetest shooting Mosin I've ever had.

Some guns are collectible c&r's, many are relics. Every time an ska gets bubbafied, the others increase in value.
Russian needs to be removed.
