Ok so I scored an awesome mak 90. Square cut reciever, however it has that useless and dumb stock on it. I was thinking about keeping it vintage and maybe doing a type 56 clone or maybe something cool and vintage or a khyber pass type. Or maybe go new school and thread the barrel and get new poly and rails. Just looking for ideas here and maybe some pics of what guys have to see where I wanna go. This mak is freaking cherry. I run my stuff hard so I'm up in the air about beating this one up much. Or maybe making it retro and still beating it up. Who knows. Share your ideas, pics, and opinions please!

Thanks yall

I voted for wood, but that's only because I know I like that. All of mine are currently polymer though, ha. The thing is, you don't want to go cheap if you want polymer, you can get bubba fast! I would stay away from rails if possible, It ads a lot of weight to AKs.

The real answer is whatever you get a better feel from. You have to really get on top of that joker to control the 7.62 recoil. That muzzle doesn't love you back the way an AR does. You gotta tuck that stock in deep and man handle the forend. Some of the polymer stuff works better for me with that.

Well I have my sar 2 that is most likely gonna get re did into my training/ truck/ around the house gun. So it's getting the modern rifle re work. I'm building a 7.62 akm in a rifle builder class in February so that will be set up for a more modern need. I was thinking about keeping this one cherry and dressing it up like a type 56 clone or something who knows. Figured I'd hear some ideas

I was in the same boat when I got my Mak. Hated the thumbhole stock. But eventually I just decided that I was going to keep it. I contoured the grip to my hand and put a dark finish on it. I kinda dig it.
I think I'm gonna leave it alone. For now.

I like that dark finish a lot actually. Looks like Browning was drinking Vodka.

Don't put anything on it other then wood! If it was a WASR id say throw some Magpul furniture on it. But don't you dare muff up a Chinese AK with plastic furniture!

I always preferred a traditional look on Maks, since the blued finish just doesn't look right with polymer. Polymer is fine on flat black Arsenals but blued steel and wood are made for each other.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I've found a guy that has some cool battle field pick up Ak furniture. So that's an option. Or just search out a type 56 stock set or a classy Russian stock set or somethig foreign or classy
