Stupid Stuff? Stupid People!

This has happened to me several time. I'm at the deli counter at a grocery store getting sliced meat. I tell them I want about 7 or 8 tenths of a pound. I'm told they don't sell it that way. I ask them how they sell it. I'm told they sell pounds, half pounds or quarters. We all know the scales are digital.

Sadly I am old enough to remember the 5 1/4" disks as a modern miracle and Godsend.

Every day, there are cashiers who operate machines that tell them how much change to give, and they can't count out the change.

Local ACE tried to hire a recent high school honors graduate as a cashier. The customer came up to pay and when the register opened and the display told her to give the customer .85 cents she just stood there staring at the change bewildered. The manager had to point out 3 quarters and 1 dime to her. True story.

I wrote a check at the local Gander and the 20 something girl tried to run my check through the register 12 times before giving up and then her light bulb went off and she exclaimed she knew what the problem was. She asked me to fill in the bottom left section (note) and it would go through just fine. I had to inform her the machine does not read handwriting. The manager had to be called.

As an honest person I can't remember all of the times I have stopped cashiers from giving me more cash back than what I gave them.
