I was trying to clean the barrel, and I picked up the wrong bore snake. As I was pushing the bore snake through I realized that it was for a much larger caliber and there's no way that it would fit through that barrel. As I attempted the pull the bore snake out, it snagged on whatever this flat metal piece is, with the hook on it, and pulled it up a little bit. I unsnagged it, and tried to push the piece back, and it won't go in. What is this and how do I fix it?

That looks like the extractor. I would pull the Bolt assembly out and see if you can get better access to it. (Wrong answer - it's def not the ejector but the extractor as noted below by Braxton1)

Here is a article discussing tuning it…

Actually, that is the EJECTOR. I don't have an exploded view to reference right now, but it looks to be close to where it should be. Let me research a little bit....

Yep. That is the correct answer. I thought they were supposed to be like the one in the OP's pic?

Finish cleaning and re assemble the rifle. Make sure the bolt clears the ejector without any mechanical interference. Your bolt has a recessed area this rides in but they should not touch. Test fire, it may be good, if it has problems ejecting? A couple “tweaks” may be required..

If you are going to keep the rifle for a while I would order a barrel wrench for it. You might have to remove the barrel to straighten it.
