Suggestion

Idk if you're involved with the actual development or just the labor no one wants to do, but maybe a checkbox option on an ad that leads to a message woth the title of the ad. Or maybe like a "ad to cart" option with portal to messages. Idk, suggestions.
I see his point …..
But change bad????
I’m not smart enough to be involved anymore….

Private Messages are completely disconnected from the posting that a member was viewing when they send them.
It's also not clear to members who are interested in buying that particular gun that you might have multiple guns listed.

The safest way is to put in the post "Please make clear that you're interested in the "<Insert Gun Specifications Here>". That way, if they respond and don't include the information, you know for a fact that they're idiots and can't read an ad or follow instructions.
Sigh. Let me explain this again. My suggestion was to improve the website so the messages AREN'T disconnected from the posting so you know which ad they're asking about. Ebay does it. You get a question about a listing there and the message clearly tells you which ad the inquiry is about. Jesus.

And eBay has a lot more money and been around a lot longer than the ODT

Ok last thing
Think about this place as more hobby and less business

Ok now bed time

I have numerous guns listed. Whenever I get an email from an interested person, I have no idea which gun they're inquiring about if they don't specifically tell me (and they hardly ever do). It would be nice if your website would somehow include that information with the email. Thanks.
They are replying to you. Not an ad.
If you want them to specifically mention which ad, simply put that in YOUR ad.
Now on to this.
The website should be able to tell which specific page the reply came from if it was designed properly, Einstein.

You miss the point nimrod. I shouldn't have to ask if the websight was designed correctly. That was the point of my suggestion.

You just don't get it. Must be a Biden voter. Continues to support his idiotic position even after the common sense of the thing is pointed out.

Jesus dude - My point was to suggest they change their website to eliminate that totally needless question. It's called efficiency. And you're arguing against it. Shaking my head.
You're still newish here. You'll find most people are pretty quick to try and help. And most people also return what they get. If I may suggest, if you want your time here to be productive and lengthy, try toning it down a couple notches and lay off the name calling. Or not. Your choice.
And, a belated welcome.

Your first problem is you're comparing two very different entities. Ebay is specifically a marketplace. It's sole purpose is the buying and selling of items. ODT is a discussion forum that contains a classifieds section, which means that a large percentage of the private messages that get sent don't have anything to do with the classifieds, so the private messaging system does have to be disconnected from ads as that's not the only function they're serving.

That aside, the software that ODT runs isn't proprietary. It's a discussion forum software called xenforo, and it dominates that market by a huge margin for good reason. So while your suggestion is noted, unless xenforo massively revamps in a future update, it isn't happening.
