Suppressor frustrations

Try a different scope on said rifle. I found this out the hard way last fall. Brand new VX5HD chased my cold bore zero for weeks. Couldn't ever get it. Then went to hand loads and found the scope was not holding zero. Switched to a VX Freedom to confirm my theory of a bad scope and the Freedom confirmed. Had to ship back to Leupold and they handled it all quickly. However, it cost me lots of time and lots of money in factory loads and hand load development when a factory load would've probably grouped well enough from the get go. I also had an end cap strike during the initial phase of this set up when the front cap walked out of the suppressor body. SilencerCo handled that easily as well. In the end it was a bad scope.

Incidentally, It is a Leupold VX-3HD. I have a VX Freedom and a Vortex scope on some other rifles I could switch it out with and see what happens. I plan on getting back out to the range this weekend if I can find some time to do all of the suggestions listed in this thread. I am really very appreciative of all the feedback here!

That's the worst I ever heard from a Leupold scope. WOW. Anyways, this sounds like the most likely problem. Worst case the gun is accurate on first shots, good for hunting. Unless you're prairie dog shooting. I've never owned a suppressor, but it ain't rocket science. I have been around them

Yes, I was able to put an accurate shot on a good buck with it this season. For deer hunting it works as-is... but I obviously want to be able to shoot it more than 1 time every 5 minutes and it still stay on target

Well I also think there is quality control issue with the rifle itself. Sorry, just my thoughts. This is why I don't buy weapons made in Spain. That said, this isn't the first shot string I've heard of. Just the worst I've heard of. End of the day, you still have a decent hunting set up. Just not a range gun. There are worse things

From the start out of the package my windage knob felt very mushy and almost bound up before it would "click" in comparison to my 2 other VX5HDs. With blind faith I told myself it was a Leupold and it was fine. It is fixed now and I'll still be buying Leupolds. I'm learning that the more I shoot I will find problems regardless of manufacturer. My scenario is very similar to yours. It would seem to group fine for a few shots then be way way way all over the place then back to grouping a few. Rifle is a Bergara MG Micro Lite in 308 took my biggest buck to date with it in December so it all worked out in the end.

Alright I got back from shooting it again, this is what I experienced.

1. The Bergara and Leupold without the suppressor shoots great and holds zero. It likes 168 grains over 150 grains for sure. I shot about 30 rounds or so through it and it didn't drift. Therefore, I do not have a gun or scope issue.

2. The suppressor when mounted on my 5.56 AR with a keymo device and keymo hub adapter shoots fine. No POI shift. (It's super gassy of course...). Therefore I do not have a suppressor issue...

3. I put a rearden flash hider on the Bergara and an atlas hub adapter on the can, and I get about a 3-4 inch POI shift right and down. However, it consistently hits the same point and no drift.

Y'all have any thoughts? I'm thinking I should stick with the rearden muzzle device and atlas adapter for this rifle since I seem to be able to rely on it. I will need to take it again soon to verify it one more time I think.

a shift in poi with a suppressor on is not uncommon. Have you tried direct thread? If so, what were your results?

POI shift with a can is 100% normal and expected. What matters is consistency. So long as that shift is consistent, you are good to go.

Yes, Im not worried about the POI shift. The problem was when this can was direct threaded, the shots would continually drift, they would be very inconsistent. It seems like with the rearden setup the rifle and can combination are consistent now. its kinda weird but I'll take it.

It was probably loosening up. If you have it corrected with a QD mount, then all good.
