This snow storm that paralyzed the city of Atlanta and left me stranded at the High School I teach at taught me one valuable lesson, I was ill-prepared. When I finally was able to leave, I had to abandon my truck and walk miles to my house. So my first part of preparing for the next snow storm is creating a bug out bag for my truck. So my question is what items do I need to keep in my bag. I understand I need the following, but what else?

  • Knife
  • Water
  • Protein bars
  • Sleeping bag
  • Med kit
  • Sleeping bag
  • Boots
  • Winter clothes
  • Firearm and extra ammo
  • Fire starter
  • Batteries
  • Radio
  • Flashlights

In addition to the above I would add a charger for your phone, hat, vaseline, gloves, first aid kit, zip ties and a secure holster for your firearm. I would choose a .357 mag revolver.

So I asked my wife to sit in on a class about get home bags as she travels each week. Here are the notes she sent me and the items she now has to have in her bag. After pillaging several of my packs, she now has an extensive bag in the trunk
of her car.
