are you prepared to protect yourself and your family if the un-thinkable happen's ? i and others would like to know how you plan to survive and assure the safety of your loved one"s, would you group-up or batten down the hatch in your bug-out spot ? what would your gear include (guns-food-clothing-water-etc) after watching a movie called "THE ROAD", and being a father, i have re-thought everything and made a few changes (thinking that i might have to travel by foot to safety) i have added detailed maps with differ'nt landmarks as the landscape might change-small water purifier-light weight wagon/cart-backpacks-dried foods-marine re-con mountain boots- and a few other's. of-course im thinking on a larger scale of survival and would be very interested in hearing what plans you might have and how you might use them...

You will need more than a way to get there, you must have a place to go. The only safe place will be one in which you have the necessary security, water, food, shelter- and a way to replenish those supplies. A lot of folks are going to "head to the hills". Hunting and foraging is a a full time job, especially if you are trying to support a family that way. Those out on the road with no place to go are refugees. Those that say they will take what they need are looters. Neither one will last long. It is essential to have a plan before the time to need it comes. A pre-stocked retreat with enough skilled people to secure it and be self sufficient is ideal. We don't all have or can afford that. Start by making a plan. Make sure you have food and water. If you don't have a prearranged place to go, prepare where you are at. Here a area few websites that specialize in just preparadness:

Get educated and get ready. We live in troubled times.

Well for me the first order of business would be to get back to my home near benning from up in ft bragg so i have to cater to that situation. I have my bag with some of the gear already ready. it has state atlases for nc, sc and ga. I have the route memorized. after i get back to my family we will just have to see what the situation is at that point.
But we will most likely try to bug-in.

Bug in is good. Especially if you are in a good location. But it is not impossible even if you are in a less than ideal location. I, too, look to get home. Not only is it where the heart is, it is where my preps are. I think it better to stay put than just "heading for the hills". Thinking about this before it happens is a lot more productive than waiting until things turn bad. I am not Chicken Little crying the sky is falling, but it never hurts to plan for all contingencies.
