I have been working on this one for about 24 hours now. When I got this one in I new it was one begging to be refinished. This is my first attempt and not the last that's for sure. Nowadays I have more mosins than I can count on one hand and I have have never had a t53 with all matching numbers receiver, bolt, butt plate, magazine. The bluing was fantastic and the bore looks like it has never been shot.
I started with 3 - 1 hour treatments with Citrastrip. Then a light sanding with 220 grit sandpaper as well as some steaming the to work out whatever bumps I could. Next was 10 coats of Rit scarlet red mixed with denatured alcohol. I gave it another light sanding and a bath afterwards. Last was 3 coats of satin clear coat.
Next I plan to reblue the butt plate and polish the bolt. Then I will move on to working on the trigger a bit, I'd like to work some of the slack out.
