my car keeps throwing codes for exhaust randomly; check engine light goes off and on every two days or so.

My car needs to be retagged in may, but can i get the emissions test done now to go ahead and get it out of the way? Id like to try and get emissions done when code is off

Has to be within 30 days if memory serves.
Scratch that. Longer than 60 days requires approval.

"Test early. GCAF recommends having your vehicle inspected four to six weeks prior to the registration renewal date. Vehicles can be tested well in advance if the owner of the vehicle will be out of the area at the time of registration. As a reminder, an emissions inspection is valid for 12 months or one registration renewal, by the same owner. GCAF recommends contacting your tag office to determine if they will allow a registration renewal prior to the normal renewal period (more than 60 days prior to the motorist’s registration renewal date, which is the owner’s birthday)."

Yes, it lasts a year as you are supposed to have a 'valid' emissions while driving on public roads. It doesn't mean that you can get one 11 months in advance. You'd be out of certification in 30 days. It clearly says (to me) if you want to do it prior to 60 days from your birthday (because you'll be out of town for an extending time as an example) you need to get prior approval.
Just call 'em up.

This, it has be within 30 days only. It sounds like you may have one or 2 bad 02 sensors. I would Seafoam your system first and see if that helps it. O2 sensors are really easy to replace and usually don't cost much

I had the same issue with my crv. Light went off in early December. I got the emissions done and waited until April to get my tag. Young lady didnt say a work when I handed over the paperwork. Might be different elsewhere and I'm speaking of my own experiences
