Tattoos in the real world

Biggest issues that I see and where people are held back the most are the ones that cannot be covered up.... neck, face and hands.
The folks who get away with those (and who are successful) are rock stars, athletes and brain childs.

Stay away from the those areas and usually no problem.

just sayin'-

my wife is a college teacher, teaching various classes in the medical field. she has an enourmous chest piece tattoo and sleeves. she actually uses them in her class, when she does the segment on "professionalism in the workplace"

Tons of great replies and I'm thankful for that guys.

As I do have lots of ink none is on my hands or neck so I'm good there. I've already planned that long shirts were going to be my only route unless I'm slinging bricks somewhere. I've worn long sleeve shirts in the middle east in 130+ temps, so I'll be fine with that aspect.

Like I said I was curious as to the hurtles you guys have crossed with having and or working with individuals with tattoos.

Thanks and have a great weekend.

Zack.

It depends on the field you plan to enter and Jacksonville is awfully warm climate to wear sleeves everyday.

I can't send a tech into someone's home if he is all tatted up and it has nothing to do with my opinion of ink. I'm in the business of happy customers and a comfortable customer is a happy one. Maybe 10% people out there have a preconception of guys with tattoos but it is what it is.

On the other hand, my brother plays in a band with a hell of a talented singer who tattooed his neck and unless he wears turtle necks everyday he is not hiding it. In the real world, he is a heavy equipment mechanic and the ink is perfectly acceptable.

If you are going into the ever shrinking suit world, be sure to spend money on nice shirts so your ink does not show through.

Zack, Just curious about whether you got your tats overseas, and how the prices compared to the states, and the quality, etc. I don't have any tattoos, but they seem pretty expensive from what some of my children tell me.

Sir,

All my ink was professionally done. Mostly in Savannah from a good friend, but I have other from my home town in Saint Augustine, Florida. I've paid anywhere from 100hr to (150hr A special artist I've always wanted a piece from who was back logged 6 months)

Each company and to some extent profession has different standards of acceptability. An individual who has made the decision to go all out with tattoos may find their views on life may not be a good fit with employers who are not accepting of body art due to their rigidity of thought. Times are changing, but not that fast. Look at the guy Brandon on the news.

Is that why you think people get tattoos? While there may be some that do, most that get major art work done are doing it for their own personal reasons and not for attention.

My little bit of ink means something to me and you are right, Hoss, it is a bit insulting to call someone with tats an attention whore.
