Want to take the bride on a weekend getaway and have never been to SSI. We usually do st augustine, mexico bch or fernandina/amelia. Any folks have suggestions about SSI? What areas are better than others to stay in/eat/etc. Would like to be close to beach(walk or bicycle distance) while also being near some of the good dining establishments we could bike/walk to? Not 100% decided on SSI so maybe Jekyll. Just seeing what ODT recommends or has to say.
Thanks!

SSI is fine but if you want to stay in a hotel closer to nicer looking beach then go to Jekyll. Beach access on Jekyll is better in most places.
It's been a few years since we moved from the area but I still dig it . I don't know what the good seafood places are on SSI anymore but try this out for lunch if you have time. There's a Harris Teeter grocery store on Sea Island Rd. They have a salad and hot bar like no other. We used to go there and load up in salad and Chinese food egg rolls etc. and then drive back to the Pier Village and eat below the big trees facing the beach. The squirrels would be sitting there waiting for food. It makes for a good afternoon.
Some here may tell you to drive up Hwy 17 to eat at B&Js in Darien but don't fall for it. It's just overpriced fried buffet **** that sucks . And it's in what used to be a service station in the 80s and just raggedy looking. But if you have time to go to Darien Skippers Fish Camp is very good. It's right on the river next to the bridge going into town.

Highly recommended - conveniently located. The island is small enough to easily move about the entire GA Gold Coast area.

We've gone three times the past few years. My wife and daughter love it. Usual beach properties you can rent from small to large. We liked getting a place further south on the main beach drag (closer to Neptune Park). That way, you are close to the beach, but can walk to most of the downtown area (and largest concentration of restaurants).

I'm not a seafood person, so can't speak to that. But, Dulce Dough is a must in the morning. If you want some good, cheap pizza, Fox's Pizza Den beats domino's or any of the big chain pizza places. Fort Frederica is also a nice little National park. Nothing spectacular, but a nice non-beach activity with lots of walking area if you like that.

I've never been to St Simons Island but I went to Jamaica one time. We stayed at the resort chain down there and it was absolutely beautiful had a mini golf course on it. Three restaurants on site including a Japanese, Hawaiian, and I think Mexican. Every night they had a huge buffet out under the pavilion and with the wind coming off the beach at that time it just feels great. You've been exposed to the sun all day long and you've got a slight burn and then when the Sun goes down it you seem to get really chilled it's really really nice. Plus the water was so freaking clear I spent all day snorkeling. I'd go out snorkeling then come back and they had one of those pool bars that you set in the pool and drink your drink. I'd circulate on and off with that all day long awesome experience. Saw some amazing sea life and visited some cold water springs that were like 40 degrees and this is in the middle of summer. The downside is is the is Jamaica is actually a real depressed when you're going through it but the resorts are awesome and the water is clear. It's an all-inclusive resort so there's no need to leave it and we didn't. However, I am sure there are much better Islands to visit where the water is super clear. The result we lived at had a closed reef so you could pretty much rest assured the only thing you would see aggressive was a barracuda. The reef didn't open up to weigh down the beach. We had a good time but like I said the island off resort is a raw deal for them that live there.
